Men want their work to be significant, to count for something important. Whether the goal is provision for family, financial security or helping others by making a difference in the world, men want their work to be worthwhile. Although the role of provider for a family has been redefined, men still feel the burden of responsibility. It is part of our identity. The urge to produce fruit, create and reproduce is deep within us. When there are financial struggles or the job seems mundane and meaningless, then any joy in work evaporates and it can become an intolerable burden. The answer is never to stand still or look back. The solution involves planning, prayer, courage and action. WiseChoices Newsletter PDF more>> | |
Balancing Work and Family
I slipped into his room late one evening as I arrived home from work so that I could give him a goodnight snuggle and a kiss, only to find him wide awake. "Hey Dad, it's Wednesday!" my 12-year-old said. "Tonight was our date night, Dad! You forgot!" Family Life - more>>
"He's Been Gone for Years"
He was a well-respected executive in his community. He had climbed the ladder of success and was reaping the rewards. - except in his family. He arrived home from work one day and shocked his wife by telling her he wanted a divorce so he could marry another woman. This couple had two sons in grade school, and the mother worried how they would react to the news. But when she told them that their father was leaving them, she was surprised by her oldest boy’s reply: “Mom, he’s been gone for years.” Family Life – more>>
Climbing the Ladder of Success … Successfully
Let me tell you about a very successful man. As a child, his name was on the lips of kings. No doubt his greatness was partially due to a gifting beyond words. After all, he taught himself to play the piano at age three. He was composing music for orchestras at the age of five, and he performed internationally at six. Family Life – more>>
Balance Work and Family
Don't expect corporate America to recognize how much fathers are needed at home. The employee's family life isn't a part of the annual report, nor can it be measured on the bottom line. If you're chalking up a lot of overtime, then here are ways you can jog loose a few more hours at home: Focus on the Family – more>>
The Kingdom Work of the Corporate World
Scanning the church directory you couldn't help but notice: in almost every household, someone was, or had been, involved in business. Which means, if this church is typical, that God has called all but a handful of His people to some form of commercial enterprise. He hasn't called them to missions or the pastorate or to any other "full-time Christian work," but to profit-driven, money making, dog-eat-dog, secular business. What, we might be tempted to ask, is God thinking? Christians are "not to conform any longer to the pattern of this world" (Romans 2:2), and yet business is relentless in its temporal demands. Launching a WorkLife Ministry In Your Church
When it comes to preparing people for Monday morning ministry – for executing the tenet to live out our faith daily – there is a gaping hole in most churches. That hole, more positively-conceptualized as a discipleship opportunity, involves preparing people to live their faith at work, or what we call “work-life ministry.” Promise Keepers Canada - more>>

| Cop Still Driven By Aroha Awarau Nick Tuitasi is swapping the force for the course. After 26 years as a police officer, he's handing in his badge to help troubled youngsters become the next Tiger Woods. "Golf involves a lot of discipline," the 43-year-old says. "There's a code of ethics to live by and hours of practice is required. Those teaching tools make good human beings. "If you give some of these youths the skills and opportunity they could step up and hit the ball just like Tiger Woods." Read more>> (Central Leader, Auckland May 07) |
Struggling With Unemployment
I am 53 and at the moment I am unemployed. At times I actually feel as though I am unemployable. It seems as though my wife has lost respect for me because the money just is not flowing in like it used to. At this point in life I just feel as though I should be much further ahead. I have always been a great employee and family man. Finding the balance was always easy for me. Now, I am fighting deep feelings of inadequacy. I don't feel needed. My relationship with God has even grown stagnant. And I ask myself almost daily, "Does He even care?". Please help. What do I do with these feelings?
